JPG to PNG

Convert JPG to lossless PNG

Every time you edit and re-save a JPG it loses a bit more quality. Converting to PNG first gives you a lossless working copy, so crops, annotations and edits do not degrade the image further. pdfty's JPG to PNG converter is also useful when a design tool, CMS or form asks specifically for PNG files.

We convert on our server with Pillow and apply the EXIF rotation from phone photos, so the PNG is upright. Be clear about what PNG does not do: it cannot restore detail the JPG already lost, and it does not magically remove backgrounds โ€” the result has the same pixels, now stored losslessly. Expect the PNG to be noticeably larger than the JPG.

Upload several JPGs at once and receive a ZIP with one PNG per file. Free: no daily limit, up to 20 MB per file, no watermark, no sign-up. Files are deleted within 1 hour. If you only need the PNG for a form, check its size limit โ€” large photos as PNG can exceed it quickly.

Frequently asked questions

No. PNG stores the JPG's pixels exactly, including any existing compression artifacts. It only stops further loss from future edits.
