PNG to HEIC

Turn PNG images into compact HEIC files

PNG files of photos and screenshots can be enormous. Converting them to HEIC usually cuts the size dramatically while keeping the image visually the same, which makes it a practical way to slim down a folder of exported screenshots or photo PNGs before syncing them to an iPhone, iPad or Mac.

pdfty encodes HEIC on our server with Pillow and libheif at quality 85. HEIC is lossy, so this is not a format for pixel-exact graphics you plan to keep editing โ€” keep the PNG master for that. Also be honest with yourself about compatibility: Apple devices open HEIC natively, but Windows typically needs the HEIF codec and most websites will not accept HEIC uploads.

Upload several PNGs at once and receive a ZIP with one HEIC per file. Free: no daily limit, up to 20 MB per file, no watermark, no sign-up. Files are deleted within 1 hour. To shrink PNGs for a website rather than an Apple device, PNG to WebP is the more compatible choice.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload PNG files

Drag and drop one or several .png images. Up to 20 MB each free.

  2. 2

    Click Convert

Each PNG is encoded as HEIC at quality 85.

  3. 3

    Wait a moment

HEIC encoding takes a few seconds per large image.

  4. 4

    Download

One file gives one .heic; several files arrive as a ZIP.

  5. 5

    Keep your originals

HEIC is lossy โ€” keep the PNG if you need to edit the image again later.

Frequently asked questions

HEIC can store an alpha channel, but support for transparent HEIC in viewers and apps is inconsistent. For reliable transparency, PNG or WebP is safer.
