The maze fills the whole page. Difficulty changes the size of the cells rather than the shape of the puzzle: easy gives you a 20 by 25 grid with wide corridors a small child can follow with a crayon, medium a 33 by 40 grid, and hard a 49 by 59 grid of narrow passages that takes an adult a good few minutes. Walls are drawn in a solid dark line so the path reads clearly even at the hard setting.

Every maze is a perfect maze: there is exactly one route between any two points, with no loops and no closed-off sections, so the puzzle is always solvable and never has a shortcut. The entrance is cut into the top left with a START arrow above it, and the exit leaves the bottom right under a FINISH arrow, which means the route crosses the full diagonal of the page rather than wandering near one corner.

Keep the answers option on and a second page repeats the maze with the correct route drawn through it in red, useful when a child is stuck or when you are handing out the same maze to a group. The file is plain vector line work with nothing to type into, so it stays sharp however large you print it and copies cleanly on a photocopier.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose a difficulty

Easy has wide corridors for young children, hard packs nearly 3,000 cells onto the page.

  2. 2

    Decide about the solution

Keep the solution page for a quick check, or leave it out so nobody peeks.

  3. 3

    Print it and play

Print at 100% ("Actual size") so the grid keeps its proportions. This sheet has no form fields: it is made to be played with a pen or pencil.

  4. 4

    Find the way through

Start at the arrow top left and come out at the arrow bottom right. There is only one route.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, and only one. The maze is carved so that every cell connects to every other by a single route, which rules out both dead ends at the exit and shortcuts.
49 cells across and 59 down on US Letter, about 2,900 cells in all. Medium is 33 by 40 and easy is 20 by 25.
Yes, on a second page, with the route drawn in red from the start arrow to the finish arrow. You can switch that page off.
US Letter if you print in North America, A4 almost everywhere else. The layout is rebuilt for each size, so the sheet fills the page either way instead of leaving a white band down one edge.
Yes. The corridors on the easy maze are wide enough for a crayon, and the page is pure line art, so there is nothing to smudge.
