A nonogram hides a small picture in a grid. The numbers beside a row list the blocks of filled squares in order, with at least one blank between neighbouring blocks, and the numbers above a column do the same going down. You shade the squares you have proved filled and cross out the ones you have proved blank, and the two kinds of mark feed each other until the picture appears. Choose a 10x10 grid for a short sitting or a 15x15 for a longer one.

Every picture on this page is checked by a line solver before it is printed: the puzzle only ships if working one row or column at a time fills the whole grid, which also proves the clues describe exactly one picture. That means no guessing is ever required and no branch ever has to be backtracked. Pictures with blank lines, solid blobs or thin static are thrown away, so the clues have real structure to work with.

Heavier rules every five squares keep long rows countable without pointing at a square and counting from the edge, and a short how-to-play note sits under the grid for a first-time solver. The squares are large enough to take a cross in pencil and still be shaded in later. Page two shows the finished picture in solid squares, so you can check a single awkward line rather than the whole grid. The sheet is a plain vector page with nothing to type into, and it prints cleanly on any home printer.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose a grid size

10 x 10 takes a few minutes; 15 x 15 has far more lines to cross-check and takes much longer.

  2. 2

    Print it and solve it

Print at 100% ("Actual size") so the grid keeps its spacing. This sheet has no form fields: it is made to be solved with a pencil.

  3. 3

Work one line at a time

Start with the lines whose blocks almost fill the row, mark the squares that must be filled, then cross out what the clues rule out.

  4. 4

    Compare with page two

The second page prints the finished picture.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. There is no watermark and no sign-up for your first 20 downloads each day; after that a free account keeps downloads going. You may print the file as often as you like for personal, school or business use.
Yes. The generator keeps a picture only when a line-by-line solver finishes the whole grid on its own, so there is always a next line you can settle by logic.
Because the same check proves it: if line logic alone fills the grid, no other picture matches those clues.
They are the runs of filled squares in that line, in order, with at least one blank square between them. 4 2 means a run of four, a gap, then a run of two.
No. The same options always produce the same sheet, so a reprint matches the copy you already have, which matters when a class or a club is working through it together. Change an option for a different puzzle.
US Letter if you print in North America, A4 almost everywhere else. The page is laid out again for each size, so the puzzle fills the sheet either way instead of leaving a white band down one edge.
