Seven sections cover the things a first baby actually needs: nursery, feeding, changing, clothing, bath, health and going out. Fifty-three items are printed, each on its own ruled row, and every section ends with a blank line for whatever your family adds. The order follows the way you shop rather than the way a shop is laid out, so the cot and the mattress sit together and the car seat sits next to the pram.

Each row has two tick boxes instead of one. The first column is "Got it". The second is "2nd hand", for the things you are happy to take from a sibling, a friend or a resale group — a cot, a changing table, a sling, clothes that get worn for six weeks. Keeping the two apart stops you buying new what somebody has already offered you, and shows at a glance how much of the list is still open.

Pick the feeding section that matches your plan before you download: breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or both. Pumps, nursing pads and nursing bras appear in one, bottles, teats and a steriliser in another, and a shortened mix of the two in the third. The due date, the blank lines, every tick box and the two write-in boxes at the foot of the page are form fields, so you can fill it in on screen or print it and work through it with a pen. One page, US Letter or A4.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose the feeding section

Breastfeeding, bottle feeding or both — it is the only section that changes. Then pick US Letter or A4.

  2. 2

    Add what the list misses

Type the due date and use the blank line in each section for anything your family needs that is not printed.

  3. 3

    Print or fill it in

Print at 100% ("Actual size") so lines and boxes keep their exact spacing, or fill the form fields on screen in any PDF viewer.

  4. 4

    Tick as you go

Use the "Got it" column for what is in the house and the "2nd hand" column for what somebody is passing on, so you never buy it twice.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. There is no watermark and no sign-up for your first 20 downloads each day; after that a free account keeps downloads going. You may print the file as often as you like for personal, school or business use.
53 printed items in seven sections — nursery, feeding, changing, clothing, bath, health and going out — plus a blank line in every section and two write-in boxes at the foot of the page.
The first column, "Got it", is for anything already in the house. The second, "2nd hand", marks the items you plan to borrow or buy used, so you can see what is still to find rather than still to buy.
Yes. The due date, the blank lines, both tick columns and the "Still to buy, borrow or ask for" and notes boxes are PDF form fields that work in Adobe Reader, Preview, Chrome or Edge.
Not quite. It is a working checklist for the people getting the house ready, but the second-hand column and the "Still to buy" box make it easy to turn into a list of what to ask for.
Yes, one page in US Letter or A4. Print at 100% so the two columns and the tick boxes keep their spacing.
