How to add comments to a PDF
Comments are sticky notes you pin to a spot on the page. They are ideal for review feedback because they do not cover the content and the reader can open them in any PDF reader.
Step by step
Choose Comment
Click Comment in the tool rail or press C.
Click to place a note
Click the spot on the page the comment refers to. A note icon appears there.
Write the comment
Type your text in the properties panel on the right. Select the note later to edit what it says.
Download and share
Download the PDF and send it. Your notes travel with the file.
Tips
- Combine a comment with a highlight or strikethrough to make it clear which words you mean.
- Select a note and press Delete or Backspace to remove it.
Frequently asked questions
Will the recipient see my comments?
Yes. Comments are standard PDF annotations, so most PDF readers show them as notes.
What happens to comments if I flatten the PDF?
Flattening makes annotations part of the page, so they can no longer be opened, edited or removed as notes.
How is a comment different from Add text?
Add text prints visible text on the page. A comment is a note icon whose text opens on demand.
