How to open a PDF: upload, URL, templates and recent files

You can start editing in a few seconds, whether the PDF is on your computer, online or one you already worked on. Your edits are autosaved in this browser, so nothing is lost if you close the tab.

Step by step

  1. Drag and drop

Drag a PDF from your desktop or file manager and drop it anywhere on the editor page.

  2. Browse files

Click Browse files and choose a PDF from your device. Files up to 20 MB are supported.

  3. Open from URL

Click Open from URL and paste a public http or https link that points directly to a PDF of up to 20 MB.

  4. Start from a template

Pick one of the free templates to open it in the editor and fill it in.

  5. Continue from Recent files

Files you edited before are listed under Recent files on the start screen. Click one to pick up where you left off.

Tips

  • Recent files and autosaved edits live only in this browser on this device. Remove a file from the list when you no longer need it.
  • Links that need a login, or that open a web page instead of the PDF itself, will not work with Open from URL.
  • Only PDF files can be opened. Convert other formats to PDF first with pdfty's converters.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my autosaved edits stored?

In your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) on this device. They are not uploaded and do not sync to other devices or browsers.

Why does Open from URL fail?

The link must be public, use http or https, point directly to a PDF and the file must be 20 MB or smaller.

How do I remove a file from Recent files?

Use the remove option next to it on the start screen. This deletes the locally saved copy and its edits from this browser.
