How to edit text in a PDF
The Edit text tool lets you change the words that are already printed in a PDF: fix a typo, update a date or replace a price. You edit one line at a time, directly on the page, and the editor tries to keep the original font.
Step by step
Open your PDF
Drop the file onto the editor or click Browse files. PDFs up to 20 MB are supported.
Switch to Edit text
Pick Edit text in the tool rail on the left or press E. When you hover over the page, editable lines get a dashed outline.
Click a line and type
Click the line you want to change. It turns into an in-place text box with the current wording, ready for editing.
Apply or cancel
Press Enter to apply the change or Esc to cancel it. The edited line now shows your new text.
Review your edits
Every edited line is listed in the properties panel on the right. Click Revert next to a line to restore the original text.
Tips
- Text does not reflow: a longer sentence will not push the rest of the paragraph down, so keep replacements close to the original length.
- If the original font is missing some characters you typed, a similar standard font is used instead (Noto Sans for non-Latin scripts) and a notice tells you so.
- Scanned pages are pictures with no real text. Run OCR (O) first, then edit.
- To add new text where there was none, use Add text (T) instead.
Frequently asked questions
Will my edited text match the rest of the document?
The editor keeps the original font whenever that font contains all the characters you typed. If it does not, it falls back to a similar standard font and shows a notice so you can check the result.
Why can't I click on any text in my PDF?
The page is most likely a scan or a photo, so there is no text layer to edit. Run OCR from the tool rail to recognize the text first.
Can I undo a text edit?
Yes. Press Ctrl/Cmd+Z right away, or use Revert next to the line in the properties panel at any time before you download.
Does editing text add a watermark?
No. The editor is free, needs no sign-up and never adds a watermark to your file.
