How to add shapes and arrows to a PDF
Shapes help you call attention to parts of a page: box a figure, circle a total or point an arrow at the field someone needs to fill. They stay crisp at any zoom level.
Step by step
Choose Shapes
Click Shapes in the tool rail or press R.
Pick a shape
Choose a rectangle, ellipse, line or arrow in the properties panel.
Drag on the page
Drag from one corner to the other, or from the start to the end of a line or arrow.
Style it
Set the border color, a fill color or no fill, the border thickness and the opacity.
Tips
- A rectangle with a light fill and low opacity works as an area highlight.
- A white filled rectangle only hides content visually. Use Redact to really remove information.
- Select a shape and press Delete or Backspace to remove it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change a shape after drawing it?
Yes. Select it to change its colors, thickness and opacity in the properties panel, or delete it and draw it again.
Can I make a shape transparent?
Yes. Choose no fill for an outline only, or lower the opacity.
Can I hide text with a filled box?
It hides the text visually, but the text stays in the file. For sensitive data use the Redact tool.
