How to convert or compress a PDF from the editor
Convert & more in the top bar connects the editor to pdfty's server tools. Use it when you need a Word document, JPG images, a smaller file or a server-side flatten instead of a plain PDF download.
Step by step
Open Convert & more
Click Convert & more in the top bar of the editor.
Choose an action
Pick Compress, Word, JPG, Flatten on server or OCR.
Wait for processing
The document is uploaded to pdfty servers and processed. Larger files take a little longer.
Save the result
Download the converted file when it is ready.
Tips
- These actions upload the file to pdfty servers. Uploaded files are deleted within 1 hour.
- For a plain edited PDF, use the Download button instead. It does not need an upload unless you turn on Compress.
- Word conversion is best for text-based PDFs. Run OCR first on scanned documents.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Convert & more upload my file?
Conversions to Word or JPG, server-side flattening, compression and OCR need server software, so these actions run on pdfty servers instead of in your browser.
How long are uploaded files kept?
Files uploaded to pdfty are deleted within 1 hour.
Should I run OCR before converting a scan to Word?
Yes. A scanned page is an image, so recognize the text with OCR first to get editable text in the Word file.
