Privacy and file safety in the PDF editor

The pdfty editor is built to keep your documents on your own device. Editing happens in your browser, and only a few optional features send the file to pdfty servers, where it is deleted within an hour.

Step by step

  1. Editing stays local

When you open a PDF, it is loaded into your browser. Editing text, annotating, signing, redacting and page changes all happen on your device.

  2. Autosave is local too

Your edits are autosaved in this browser's local storage (IndexedDB) and the file appears in Recent files. Nothing of this is sent to pdfty.

  3. Know which features upload

Convert & more (Compress, Word, JPG, Flatten on server, OCR) and the optional Compress on download upload the file to pdfty servers for processing.

  4. Uploaded files are deleted

Any file uploaded for these features is deleted from pdfty servers within 1 hour.

  5. Clean up when you are done

Remove a document from Recent files to delete its local copy, especially on a shared computer.

Tips

  • On a shared or public computer, remove your files from Recent files before you leave.
  • Saved signatures are also kept only in this browser.
  • Use Redact, not Whiteout, before sharing a document that contains confidential data.
