How to fill out a PDF form
If your PDF already has interactive fields, the Fill form tool lets you complete them quickly from the keyboard. Your entries are saved as real form values in the downloaded file.
Step by step
Open the form
Open the PDF in the editor, or start from one of the free templates.
Switch to Fill form
Click Fill form in the tool rail or press F.
Click a field and type
Click any field to start typing. Check boxes and radio buttons toggle with a click, and dropdowns open a list of options.
Move through the fields
Press Tab for the next field and Shift+Tab for the previous one, or use the Next field button.
Download the filled form
Click Download. Turn on Flatten if the recipient should not be able to change your answers.
Tips
- Clear form erases every value at once. You will be asked to confirm first.
- If the form has no clickable fields, use Add text (T) to type on the lines, or create real fields with Create field (Shift+F).
- Your progress is autosaved in this browser, so you can close the tab and continue later from Recent files.
Frequently asked questions
Why are there no fields to click?
The PDF is probably a flat document, not an interactive form. Use Add text to type on top of it, or add real fields with the Create field tool.
Will the recipient be able to edit my answers?
In a normal download the fields stay editable. Turn on Flatten in the download options to make the values a permanent part of the page.
Can I sign the form too?
Yes. Use the Signature tool (S) to draw, type or upload a signature and place it on the signature line.
