This is a grid, not a to-do list. Nine rooms are printed down the left — kitchen, bathroom, living room, dining room, two bedrooms, hall and stairs, home office and the laundry or utility room — with three blank lines underneath for the rooms your home has and this one does not. Across the top run seven jobs: tidy and surfaces, dust, vacuum, mop floors, bins, glass and mirrors, and a deep clean.

Every cell holds a small box for each week of the month, four or five depending on the option you choose, so one sheet covers the whole month and the pattern shows itself. The bathroom row fills up; the spare bedroom row stays empty for three weeks and that is fine, because now it is a decision rather than an oversight. Shared households find it settles arguments faster than any rota, since the ticks are visible to everybody.

Pin it on the fridge or inside a cupboard door and tick with a pen as you go. The month at the top and the three blank room lines can be typed before printing; the boxes themselves are drawn for a pen, which is what keeps the sheet quick enough to actually use. Four weeks per cell covers a normal month, five covers the long ones, and a fresh copy each month takes one print. One landscape page, US Letter or A4.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose four or five weeks

Four boxes per cell suits most months; five covers a month that spills into a fifth week. Then pick US Letter or A4.

  2. 2

    Add your own rooms

Type the month and any extra rooms on the three blank lines before printing, or write them in afterwards.

  3. 3

    Print or fill it in

Print at 100% ("Actual size") so lines and boxes keep their exact spacing, or fill the form fields on screen in any PDF viewer.

  4. 4

    Tick a box a week

Hang the sheet where you can reach it and tick the box for the week as each job is done in each room.

Only lightly. The month and the three blank room lines are form fields; the tick boxes are drawn for a pen, because the sheet is designed to hang on a wall rather than be filled on a screen.
Kitchen, bathroom, living room, dining room, bedroom 1, bedroom 2, hall and stairs, home office, and laundry or utility, plus three blank lines for anything else.
Tidy and surfaces, dust, vacuum, mop floors, bins, glass and mirrors, and deep clean — seven in all, the same for every room.
A checklist tells you what to do daily, weekly and monthly. This one records what has actually been done, room by room, week by week, which is the half people forget.
Yes. Use a different colour pen per person, or initial the box instead of ticking it, and the split is plain to see at the end of the month.
