Houseplants rarely die of neglect in the abstract; they die because nobody can remember whether the fern was done on Tuesday. This landscape sheet puts your plants down the left-hand side and the 31 days of the month across the top, so one glance shows the pots that have been watered and the one in the back bedroom that has not. Tick a box each time you water, and the gaps on the row tell you how often that plant actually gets attention.

Two narrow columns sit between the plant name and the calendar. The light column records what the plant wants — full sun, part shade, shade — and the water column what it needs, such as weekly, or when the top inch is dry. Written down once, those two notes settle most watering arguments, and they make the sheet usable by whoever is looking after the plants while you are away.

Pick 16 rows for a normal flat or 24 for a bigger collection. The plant names and the two needs columns are form fields, so you can type the list once, save it, and print a fresh copy at the start of each month without retyping anything. The day boxes are left for a pen, since ticking one as you put the can down is the whole point. Keep the finished sheets and you have a season's watering history for the plants that sulk. One landscape page, US Letter or A4.

That is what the light and water columns are for: fill them in, leave the sheet with the plants, and a plant sitter has the instructions and the record in one place.
