Each meter gets two columns: the reading as it appears on the dial, and Used, which is that reading minus the one on the line above. Writing both down is what turns a column of long numbers into something you can read — the used figure is the one that tells you the winter was colder, or that something has been left running since March.
Three meters are shown by default, electricity, gas and water, and a four-meter layout adds a spare pair of columns for a second electricity meter, oil, heat or an export meter from solar panels. Underneath the table are lines for the meter numbers themselves, which are what a supplier asks for on the phone and what nobody can ever find when they need them, least of all in a cupboard in the dark.
The sheet prints no rates, no standing charges and no prices, and it works out no bill: what any utility charges is between you and your supplier, and it changes. This is a record of readings, dated, in one place, which is exactly what you need when a bill looks wrong, when you move in or out of a property, or when you want to compare this February with last. Twenty-four rows covers two years of monthly readings. Landscape, US Letter or A4, with every cell fillable.
