This is chart paper for counted work, drawn at the scale of the fabric rather than an arbitrary grid. Pick the count that matches your Aida or evenweave and each square on the page is one stitch at finished size: 10 count gives 70 by 90 stitches on US Letter, 14 count gives 100 by 130, and 18 count gives 130 by 170. Charting at the same count as the fabric means the design on paper is the size the finished piece will be.

Every tenth line is drawn heavier, in both directions, so you can count blocks of ten instead of single squares when you are copying or transferring a motif. The centre stitch is marked the way published charts mark it: a blue line down the middle column and across the middle row, plus solid arrowheads outside all four edges. Start from the centre of the chart and the centre of your fabric and the design lands where you expect.

The grid is centred on the page with equal left and right margins and the squares are set from the real inch, so a page printed at 100% measures exactly 10, 14 or 18 squares per inch against a ruler. There is nothing to fill in on screen; this is a sheet to print and draw symbols on with pencil or coloured pencil. Print as many copies as your design needs and tape them edge to edge for larger pieces.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose the stitch count

Match the count of your Aida or evenweave so the chart prints at finished size.

  2. 2

    Pick the paper size

US Letter or A4 — the grid is laid out and centred for the sheet you choose.

  3. 3

    Download the PDF

One full page of counted grid with the centre marked, free and without a watermark.

  4. 4

    Print at actual size

In the print dialog choose "Actual size" or 100% instead of "Fit to page", so every measurement on the sheet comes out exactly as labeled.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. There is no watermark and no sign-up for your first 20 downloads each day; after that a free account keeps downloads going. You may print the file as often as you like for personal, school or business use.
On US Letter: 70 by 90 at 10 count, 100 by 130 at 14 count, and 130 by 170 at 18 count. A4 is narrower and taller, so you get the same width and ten more rows.
A blue line runs down the centre column and across the centre row, and solid arrowheads sit just outside the grid at all four edges, the same convention published charts use.
Yes, if you print at 100%. Each square is one stitch at the count you chose, so a 60-stitch motif measures the same on paper as it will on the fabric.
No. The sheet has no form fields — it is meant to be printed and filled in by hand, or annotated with a stylus in a PDF app.
