The top half of the sheet is your plan. Ten rows hold the name of each debt or creditor, the balance you owe, the interest rate, the minimum payment and the position you have given it in your payoff order. The balance, rate and payment headers are right-aligned over their figures, and nothing on the page prints a currency symbol.

Below the plan is a progress bar split into twenty blocks, one for every five per cent of the total you clear, with marks at 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 per cent. Colour a block in each time you cross another five per cent off, so the page shows how far you have come without you having to re-read the numbers. Under it, an eighteen-row payment log records the date, which debt you paid, the amount and the new balance, with space for a note.

Pick snowball and the sheet explains the smallest-balance-first approach and labels the order column "Order (smallest first)". Pick avalanche and it explains the highest-interest-first approach and labels the column "Order (highest rate)". Everything else stays identical, so you can print one of each and compare them, or switch part way through without redoing your layout. The whole plan, the bar and the log fit a single US Letter or A4 page.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose a method

Snowball orders your debts by balance, smallest first. Avalanche orders them by interest rate, highest first.

  2. 2

    Download and fill the plan

List each debt with its balance, rate and minimum payment, then number the payoff order.

  3. 3

    Print or fill it in

Print at 100% ("Actual size") so lines and boxes keep their exact spacing, or fill the form fields on screen in any PDF viewer.

  4. 4

Log payments and colour the bar

Record each payment in the log and colour one block for every five per cent of the total you clear.
