Net worth is a single number: what you own minus what you owe. This worksheet puts the two sides next to each other so the sum is obvious. The assets column prints thirteen common line items — cash on hand, checking and savings accounts, an emergency fund, investments, retirement accounts, a pension, your home, other property, vehicles, business interests, money owed to you and valuables — and leaves nine blank lines for anything else.
The liabilities column prints eleven items: mortgage, home equity loan, car loans, student loans, credit card balances, personal loans, medical debt, taxes owed, business loans, money you owe family and other debts, with eleven blank lines after them. Both columns have twenty-two rows in total, and the value headers are right-aligned over their figures with no currency symbol anywhere. That is room enough for a household with several accounts without the rows becoming too narrow to write in by hand.
At the foot of the page a panel shows total assets, total liabilities with a minus sign in front of the box, and net worth with an equals sign and a heavy rule, so nobody has to guess which way round the subtraction goes. Every value box is a form field, which makes it easy to save one file per quarter and compare them later.
