The main table gives each day of the week its own row with seven columns: the day, the date, where you shopped, what the trip was for, what you spent, the running total for the week and what is left of your limit. That last column is the one that changes behaviour, because it turns a vague sense of having spent a lot into a number before Thursday's shop rather than after Sunday's.

Under it, a ten-row table catches everything that comes out of the food money but is not a food shop: top-ups at the corner shop, a takeaway, lunch bought at work, the coffee on the way to the station. Those are what usually explain the gap between a planned weekly spend and a bank statement, and giving them their own rows means the big shop does not get blamed for them.

A summary panel closes the page with the limit for the week, the total spent, how far under or over you came and anything carried into next week, next to a ruled panel for what to change. Choose a week starting Monday or Sunday and the printed day names follow. Nothing is prescribed - no limit, no currency and no suggested budget per person - the limit is yours to set. One page, US Letter or A4, every cell fillable.

How to use it

    Choose the week start

Monday or Sunday; the printed day names change to match.

Write the figure you want to keep to at the top. Nothing is suggested for you.

  3. 3

    Print or fill it in

Print at 100% ("Actual size") so lines and boxes keep their exact spacing, or fill the form fields on screen in any PDF viewer.

  4. 4

Update it as you get home

Add each shop to the running total and write what is left of the limit beside it, then log top-ups in the second table.

No. No amount is printed anywhere; the limit is a field you fill in, because what is sensible depends on your household, your country and what food costs where you live.
Yes. Both tables and the summary panel are form fields, so the sheet can be filled in on a phone or laptop PDF reader and saved each week.
One line per day in the main table, plus ten rows for top-ups, takeaways and anything else that came out of the food money.
Print two sheets and carry the running total from the first onto the second; the carried-to-next-week line in the summary is there for exactly that.
None is printed, so the tracker suits any country.
