Each bond is drawn the way it appears in class: a circle holding the total, two lines branching down to two smaller circles, one filled in and one empty. Twelve of them fill the page in three columns of four, with enough space around each that a young child can write a large number in the empty circle without running into the next question. The missing part swaps between the left and right circle so the pattern cannot be guessed.

The total option covers the three stages most schools teach. Bonds to 10 come first and use every part from one to nine, so all nine pairs turn up across a couple of sheets. Bonds to 20 extend the same idea across the tens boundary, which is where most children need the practice. Bonds to 100 use multiples of five, keeping the arithmetic mental rather than written and matching the way bonds to 100 are usually introduced.

The empty circle in every bond is a form field, so the sheet can be used on a tablet with a stylus or typed into directly. Turn the answer key on and the PDF becomes two pages: the worksheet, then the same twelve bonds with the missing parts printed in red. The same total always produces the same twelve bonds, so a key printed once keeps matching.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose the total

Bonds to 10 for a first class, 20 next, or 100 in multiples of five.

  2. 2

    Add the answer key

Turn the key on for a second page with all twelve missing parts in red.

  3. 3

    Print or fill it in

Print at 100% ("Actual size") so lines and boxes keep their exact spacing, or fill the form fields on screen in any PDF viewer.

  4. 4

    Fill the empty circle

Write the part that makes the total when added to the number already shown.

Twelve, in three columns of four, with the missing part alternating between the left and right circle.
So the bonds stay mental. Multiples of five are how bonds to 100 are usually introduced before any written method.
Yes, the empty circle in each bond is a form field, which also makes the sheet work with a stylus on a tablet.
Yes. A bond with a missing part is the same thing as a subtraction, and many teachers read it both ways.
Yes. The questions come from the options you choose, so a key printed today still matches a worksheet printed next term, and a whole class can work from the same page.
