Translating one way is not the same skill as translating the other, so this sheet does both. The top half gives fifteen numbers to write as roman numerals; the bottom half gives fifteen roman numerals to write as ordinary numbers. Each half sits under its own instruction bar, and the questions run in three columns of five with the answer lines aligned so a column can be marked at a glance.
The note under the title is the only reference a child needs: the value of I, V, X, L, C, D and M, and the rule that a smaller numeral written before a larger one is subtracted. The range option sets how far the numbers go. Up to 100 keeps to I, V, X, L and C and the subtractive pairs IV, IX, XL and XC; up to 1000 brings in D and M along with CD and CM.
Every numeral on the sheet was produced by converting the number and then converting it back to check it reads the same, so no shortened or non-standard form appears. The answer lines are form fields for working on screen. With the key turned on the PDF is two pages, the worksheet and the same thirty questions with the answers in red.
