Every page has eight short word problems about children sharing, collecting and giving away everyday things such as stickers, marbles, apples and books. Each one is a single step: the reader decides whether to add or subtract, works it out in the space under the question, then writes the number sentence and the answer on the two ruled lines. The sentences are short and plain so the reading does not get in the way of the arithmetic.
The difficulty option changes the numbers, not just the wording. Numbers to 20 keeps every total inside twenty for first practice, numbers to 100 brings in two-digit addition and subtraction, and numbers to 1000 uses three-digit numbers for later years. Half the problems on each page add and half subtract, in mixed order, so the first job is always working out which operation the story needs.
The number sentence and answer lines are form fields, so the sheet can be completed on screen as well as on paper. Add the answer key and the PDF arrives as two pages: the same eight problems, with the number sentence and the answer printed in red under each one. Both pages fit US Letter or A4 without rescaling, so a worksheet printed at home matches one printed at school.
