This is the sheet the words are written on during the test, not a practice sheet. The header has name, date and list lines and a boxed score at the top right already printed as out of ten, fifteen or twenty to match the number of lines you chose, so the mark can be written straight in without working out the total.

The numbered lines are generously spaced for handwriting: ten words run down a single column, while fifteen and twenty split into two columns. Each line has a small tick box at the end, so marking is a quick pass down the page, and the number of ticks is the score. Nothing is printed in the lines themselves, so the same sheet works for any word list the teacher reads out.

Under the lines is a ruled corrections area, headed with the instruction to write every missed word three times. That turns the test sheet into the follow-up work as well, instead of needing a second page. Every line and the score box are form fields, so the test can even be taken on a tablet and saved rather than printed. The name, date and list lines at the top keep a term of tests in order in a folder.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose the word count

Ten, fifteen or twenty lines; the score box is printed out of the same number.

  2. 2

    Print or fill it in

Print at 100% ("Actual size") so lines and boxes keep their exact spacing, or fill the form fields on screen in any PDF viewer.

  3. 3

    Take the test

Write one word on each numbered line as it is read out, or type into the lines on a tablet.

  4. 4

    Mark and correct

Tick each correct word, write the score in the box, then write every missed word three times in the corrections area.
